wally martin posted an update: Man , it sure is lonley here ! ... Still hoping some fine old friends and neighbors drop on by for a visit ... New folks also , maybe just cruz'in 'round . I just blew-away a three hour write due to a computer crash of this 15 year old relic and my own gross ignorance - Merde ! ( but also lucky you !) ... Also a much too long-winded description of the Occupy activities in n.y.c. (intentionally not capitalized) and Philly ; the activities and interactions included "reasonings" , "n.y.c. outrages designed to justify police riots" , "the "Mike Check echo deal" (It was an immediate bust to get caught with any type of voice volume amplifier - "bullhorns" or whatnot) , the future / upcoming efforts , etcetera . I've got twelve rolls of 35mm to be processed and will have same scanned as soon as fiscally possible ; I'll then find someone smart enough to post them on this wonderful but temporarily silent site .

And gee , as I figured that if I included a buzz-word in this bit of doggrell , it might just drawl some buutterflies ! As for the aforemantioned buzz-word attractant , I'd dared to include one of my own poems (actually got a "10" rateing on a 1 to 10 grading scale) entitled "MORE SEXUALLY SEQUACIOUS STUFF" ... Kind of "dark" but nevertheless true . And who knows , maybe some hip chick (sorry) or dude will note the word "sex" and inadvertantly tune-in and turn-on to TWBN .

As for any heads , an old friend , long seperated by the time/distance/circumstance thing managed to find me . Then , as word does get around , I've made other connections with friends "out west" . If there are any heads listining , one gram of finely manacured "medicine" goes for exactly $2.73 in one town . And chocolate lovers , how about a "medical" Hershey Bar or a double scoop of "special" chocolate ice-cream on a cone ? Too much ! (My beloved wife would freak-out .) It all depends where you're geographically located of coarse , but three friends in three differing cities send invites . One city in the Pacific N.W. has a shop that will even deliver , and (no joke) if you've no bread , there's no charge . One of my old friends (a double entendre - a time and "age" , like me , thing) in a city far to the south , who looked super-straight , had absolutely no difficulty striking up a conversation with the young and obviously hip ; as he had no dough at the time , they laid a half lid on him , gratis . And yes , "extended famlies" are still in existance ; one fine gal is still doing the "Whole Earth" communal thing . Word does get around , and I'm thankful for such Karmic connetions . (Tech wise , one male friend does have a "smart phone" and a "lap-top" , but although I don't even own a regular dumb cell phone , there's no problem with anything . ... Nice that word does get around .

Best of all , I did recieve an exceptionally refreshing and most beautiful "pen and ink" letter from a good friend who is a member of TWBN . My heart smiled for days ! ... Christmas in May ! ! ! Then there are the wonderfully gifted friends herein who somehow manage to grace me with joyous emails despite richly rewarding yet very fully schedulrd days . ... Always a real treat ... All thought of each and every day .

Well , despite the bummer of a lost three hour chunk of partial "spam" , at least this note didn't partly flop out of an opened can .
O/O/O , and so it goes . Pax , wally

Just wishing that this site , with its wonderful members of like mind and experience , could be jump-started or have "the paddles" placed on its ethereal heart and 400 joules delivered - or in lieu of all of that Newtonian/Cartesian nonsense , maybe a good few tokes to be passed spiritually around with a dropping of 250 mikes of Owsley's best !

... Such a nice place ... Such fine folks .
wally martin posted an update in the group The Pow Wow Lodge: Okay , I may be using up allot of tape/Gigs or whatever , but while on the aging theme , with flashes of Jethro Tull's "Reason for Waiting" off of their "Stand Up" first LP ("... fear of dying , getting old") , and with the knowledge that this ain't no poetry site , fur schur , I hope that you'll pardon my inclusion of a short poem by Edna St Vincent Millay , a most favored poet . Well , at least it ain't span (I hope !) ...

"What Lips My lips Have Kissed"

What lips my lips have kissed , and where , and why ,
I have forgotten , and what arms have lain
Under my head till morning; but the rain
Is full of ghosts tonight, that tap and sigh
Upon the glass and listen for reply ,
And in my heart there stirs a quiet pain
For unremembered lads that not again
Will turn to me at midnight with a cry .
Thus in the Winter stands the lonely tree ,
Nor knows not what birds have vanished one by one ,
Yet knows its boughs more silent than before ;
I cannot say what loves have come and gone ,
I only know that summer sang in me
A little while , that in me sings no more .

... Hope that I didn't butcher that too badly , and that somehow it will be found relative to a previous note . While some have known those words in sad experience , myself included , I would guess that as long as you Love and are Loved , such memories are best left relegated to a lower shelf .
Again , many thanks for your friendship , understanding , and patience .
I'll (finally) be still now .
O , wally

wally martin posted an update in the group The Pow Wow Lodge: ... Remember where you were at when ... The Titanic sunk (?) , or JFK got put on ice by L.H.O (and "Company") , or when the government imploded the three WTC's (with knowledge afore thought and some expected "help") ? For whatever reason the other say I recalled the exact instant and place where/when I heard of the Kent State Massacre , and the rage that I felt . Memories .
I also remember the words "Don't trust anybody over thirty ." , and there was a time when I'd concretely resolved to pull my own plug on 24 Oct '78 , this at the age of thirty years . Of coarse , that was during the 60s . Then , just a few short years later , when with older friends , and a head full of SKF "Christmas Trees" , the Airplanes "Lather" was played and I spent a good week in thought . Years later it was Elton John's line " ... I've no wish to be living sixty years on ." . More thought . Maybe it's an Ego thing offsetting a ''Don't Fear the Reaper" bit of "Thanatoistic" Freudian lose cartography ratt'lin 'round , or maybe it's the dread ennui gnawing at a spirit that's erroneously perceived as being stagnant , yet lent new life by the words of friends , or maybe it's a simple , innate , sort of unrecognized fear being overpowered by a stronger need to know , experience , and learn - for the next time around ? (Not to sound cryptic , but yup , I exist still and I'm happy , even if I'm not out in Arcata , Humboldt County , California .) Thanks much Friends .

Shifting gears , I wonder if anyone has noted that some musical performers are "better" (not the proper word) when heard 'live" than on vinyl . I'd mentioned Elton ... First seen in a 350 capacity converted tire factory for a pricey three dollars and fifty cents . ... A fellow in a leisure type suit with huge shades ... Played mostly old Ray Charles stuff , and had everyone up and dancing within thirty seconds or so ! Also The Dead , which would get uncountable votes , and a favorite of mine since '66 , The Airplane . People as such , I'd think , really didn't have to waist their time performing at such a small joint for $3.75 (Joni Mitchell played a tiny seat , table and chairs joint called "The Second Fret" , two blocks over and six up.) , but play they did - and so fine they were . ... Guess that maybe these good people felt some sort of "fan loyalty" . It's a long list , but I just wonder if anyone else has known bands that they consider better sounding "live" than on a mono LP . And then there's the "Free Music Bands" ... Memories to share ?

  And again , Thanks . O/O/O/O , wally

(... No more Doran Beach , Bike Cam 10 , Dead Man videos - or sounds of The Dead or Airplane for awhile . If anyone has got a CD player , inexpensive , please drop a note . And yep-er , that was the 'whine' part .)

... And sometimes it seems like all that I do is complain , whine a bit , apologize , and share just a little . as for the "apology" part , I inadvertently gave some false info last note . The place where my friend is now living is Arcata , Calif. , and the YT video is "420 in Humboldt" .
I'm trying to convince my best friend / dear wife (peaceful , gentle , intelligent , very attractive w/o any "makeup" , moderately naive , and ... kind of "predictable" and "not prone to spontaneity" - but I'd die a thousand times for one of her smiles and would love her unto each of those thousand .) to relocate so as to be with friend / friends , but . . . . "A commune ?! Oh no , you're not serious Walt ! ! !" ... "Ah Sweetheart , all I'm asking is to think on it for a while ."
Tain't likely to happen . Butt despite the wistful yearnings and the idle travailing boots and the gnawing ennui which comes from being in one place for far too long (Anyone know the feeling ?) , yes , I do acknowledge my good fortune .
Later and Always ,

wally martin posted an update in the group The Pow Wow Lodge: Dear Friends , please accept my apology for the sudden and protracted silence ; I have no rational / justifiable excuse . I was involved in the "Occupy" activities and this computer was broken for awhile , but basically i awoke one morning only to find myself "old" - That translates as "self-pity" , a soul / spirit corruption ... a weakness . I'm slowly getting myself back on track , in tune , and in the grove . Not to wallow in this self-pity , but I have been sans any form of listening to the music which I do so very much cherish - This computer can no longer play music , I don't own a turntable , and the CD player has been broken . No sympathy , but that's just the way it has been . To end the paragraph on a more pleasant note (and not to be cryptic) , I can say that the clouds are parting and the sun is beginning to once again shine .
A month or so ago , while I was in another room of this house , I heard a loud but muted "thump" . ... Turns out that a shelf of one of my many heavy bookcases had given way to the weight of three deep books . While removing said books so as to effect repairs , I found allot of long forgotten material from the 60s / early to mid 70s ... interesting stuff like ticket stubs from musical performances (such as "The Velvet Underground" and "Cream" , and a plethora of "generic no name" ticket stubs from a time when bands such as The Airplane and the Dead did gigs in a 350 capacity converted tire factory that I used to frequent) , a copy of "The East Village Other" and "Rat" , and some Weather Underground literature ... A find that brought back a flood of near forgotten memories . Oddly enough , a few week later another shelf collapsed , but this time there were no goodies to be found .
Then , during my absence from this wonderful site , a dear friend from the 60s managed to somehow find me - Man , but it was like a shot of epinephrine straight into my spiritual heart ! ... Turns out , my friend had relocated to a place named Acada , Calif , and had been trying to find me for years just by being systematic (computer literacy was a major aid) . Acada sounds just a mite like Frisco in 65' , so despite the fact that I've been rooted like an old oak to one place for so blasted long , I do feel the distant , but very real , call of the road . Also , I wonder if anyone here has ever heard of Acada ; if so , please (I hope) do share your impressions .
And another "also" followed by yet another apology ... If anyone has a CD player (inexpensive) that they might wish to part with (I really do miss the uplift of music) , please drop me a note . And yes , I know that this note is dry , uninspiring , and too "me" oriented ; any new posts would go a long way towards getting me back on track . Many thanks . wally
